Mausoleum of Halicarnassus
Admire Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the only standing historic site of the original Seven Wonders of Antiquity. Built in the 4th century BCE, this 1,500-year-old mausoleum is known for the novelty of its architectural style compared to other buildings of its time. Although many of the artifacts from the mauseoleum are on display in museums around the world, the ruins here include column pieces that display ancient Greek stone-carving work, an ancient stairway, and parts of mosaics. View some of these artifacts and mosaics at the museum adjacent to the ruins and learn about the history behind them. Wear comfortable shoes so you can get around easily. Note that the site is readily accessible from the city center and local metro station. Mausoleum of Halicarnassus reviews

Wonderful to see the ruins and story line explained so well. Clean facilities. Very quiet area to enjoy. Loved reading about it in the room that was cooled down. more »

If you are a history lover, this place is a must-visit one. Unfortunately, there is not much left to see. The ruins though remind of the imposing building. There is a model of the Mausoleum in the... more »

It was as openly reported, a few pieces of the mausoleum dotted around. But it was serene and atmospheric and certainly worth a quick visit. (Only 14 lira entry so not expensive and hopefully goes a little towards keeping the site open to the public).

It's one of the seven wonders of the world and if you ever come by, you should definitely spare half an hour or so to take a look around. Most of the building has been destroyed during an earthquake and the rest of the blocks were used to build the Bodrum castle but with the help of the map and a visual model (inside the museum part which is tiny but if you have time to read the stories they are very insightful) you can imagine the glorious building there was. I gave 3 stars because there was some rubbish in the grounds and there wasn't any coffee place or such inside so you can spend time there and take it all in. Still, it is a beautiful sight and cultural experience so I would recommend to see it at least once.
