Kizilkule, Alanya

#3 of 21 in Museums in Antalya Province
Military Museum · Hidden Gem · Lookout
A 13th-century architectural masterpiece and landmark, Kizilkule is considered the symbol of the city of Alanya--as evidenced by its incorporation into the city's flag. Built in 1221 under the sultan's orders to protect the shipyard, the octagonal, Seljuk-style structure stands 33 m (108 ft) high and 12.5 m (41 ft) wide. The tower gets its name from the red brick used in construction, whose color remains bright and noticeable today along the coastline. Enter to see the museum housed within, which opened in 1979 and includes exhibits on the history of the tower, town, and heraldry.
