9 days in Dali, Lijiang & Kunming Itinerary

Kunming to Dali is an approximately 3-hour train ride. You can also take a train; or drive; or fly. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 26th (Tue) early enough to drive to Lijiang.

The cultural capital of the Naxi people, one of the 55 minority ethnic groups in the country, Lijang traces its history back over 800 years, with the city developing from a trading post on the ancient Southern Silk Road.

Lijiang is known for historic sites, nature, and nightlife. You can drive from Dali to Lijiang in 2.5 hours. Other options are to take a train; or take a bus. On the 29th (Fri), you're off to Kunming.

With a temperate climate at 2,000 m (6,600 ft) and a variety of tourist attractions, Kunming makes a popular gateway for exploring Yunnan Province.

Start off your visit on the 30th (Sat): walk around Green Lake (Cui Hu), then browse the fresh offerings at Zhuanxin Wet Market, and then steep yourself in history at Kunming Golden Temple.

You can take a train from Lijiang to Kunming in 4.5 hours. Other options are to take a train; or fly; or drive. Expect a daytime high around 24°C in October, and nighttime lows around 13°C. You will have some time to spend on the 31st (Sun) before leaving for home.
