La Fortuna de San Carlos

Set against the backdrop of the imposing Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna de San Carlos offers visitors a chance to explore diverse natural landscapes and sample some delicious local produce.
Get outdoors at River Rafting & Tubing and Butterfly Conservatory. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Bogarin Trail and Cerro Chato (Chato Volcano). There's lots more to do: stroll through Arenal Oasis Wildlife Refuge, hike along Arenal 1968 Volcano View & Trails, take a pleasant ride with Arenal Wilberth Stables, and get engrossed in the history at ChocoMuseo La Fortuna.

Getting from Playas del Coco to La Fortuna de San Carlos by car takes about 3 hours. Other options: take a shuttle; or do a combination of bus and taxi. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Tue) so you can drive to Tarcoles.

Traveling by car from La Fortuna de San Carlos to Tarcoles takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and taxi. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 16th (Fri) so you can catch the flight to Tamarindo.

Surfing remains the main reason to take a trip to Tamarindo, as the beachside town is mostly known for its excellent waves.
Start off your visit on the 17th (Sat): get a new perspective on things with Boat Tours & Water Sports, stroll through Monkey Park, and then kick back and relax at Tamarindo Beach.
