Santiago de los Caballeros

— 7 nights

First Santiago of the Americas

Founded in 1496 by Christopher Columbus' brother, Santiago de los Caballeros was among the very first European settlements in the Americas, which explains its nickname: "First Santiago of the Americas." Today, the city represents one of the Western Hemisphere's major financial, cultural, and industrial centers.
Centro Leon has been added to your itinerary. Attractions like 27 Charcos and Pico Isabel de Torres make great kid-friendly stops. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Santiago de los Caballeros: Puerto Plata (Fortaleza San Felipe, Macorix House of Rum, &more), Sosua (Zipline & Casa de Arte Sosua) and Cabarete (Cabarete Beach & Stand-Up Paddleboarding). There's still lots to do: make a trip to La Aurora Cigar Factory, get engrossed in the history at Palacio Consistorial, kick back and relax at Paradise Island & The Mangroves (Cayo Arena), and take in the spiritual surroundings of Catedral de Santiago Apostol.
