Kathmandu

Once synonymous with the mysterious and inaccessible Shangri-La, today Kathmandu draws an ever-increasing number of tourists, catering to independent travelers of various budgets.
Kopan Monastery and Swayambhunath Temple are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Til Mahadev Narayan Mandir and Guhyeshwari Temple. Step out of Kathmandu with an excursion to Siddhi Lakshmi Temple in Bhaktapur--about 38 minutes away. There's lots more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Boudhanath Stupa, make a trip to Taleju Mandir Temple, contemplate the long history of Kathmandu Durbar Square, and get a dose of the wild on a nature and wildlife tour.

Nagoya, Japan to Kathmandu is an approximately 11.5-hour combination of train and flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. Traveling from Nagoya to Kathmandu, you'll gain 3.2 hours due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Nagoya in March, expect nights in Kathmandu to be about the same, around 11°C, while days are much warmer, around 29°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Wed) to allow enough time to travel to Pokhara.

Traveling by combination of car and flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Expect somewhat warmer evenings in Pokhara when traveling from Kathmandu in March, with lows around 16°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Thu) early enough to fly to Sauraha.

Sauraha

The tourist town of Sauraha stands on the edge of the Chitwan National Park and acts as the eastern gateway to a World Heritage-protected area.

You can fly from Pokhara to Sauraha in 2.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. Expect a bit warmer weather when traveling from Pokhara in March: highs in Sauraha hover around 35°C, while lows dip to 19°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 6th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Lumbini.

An important place of Buddhist pilgrimage, Lumbini represents the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha.
Start off your visit on the 7th (Sun): take in the spiritual surroundings of Chinese Temple, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Maya Devi Temple, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Royal Thai Monastery, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Kudan Stupa.
