Along the Dalmation Coast, the city of Dubrovnik has become famous for its pedestrian-only Old Town surrounded by fortress walls, and its historical heft has earned it World Heritage Site status.
Kick off your visit on the 2nd (Sat): steep yourself in history at Fort Imperial, learn about all things military at Museum of Croatian War of Independence, and then steep yourself in history at Dominican Monastery. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: steep yourself in history at Fort Bokar, view the masterpieces at Samostan Sv.klare, get lost in a book at The Franciscan Church and Monastery, then contemplate the long history of Dubrovnik City Walls, then get great views at Minceta Fortress, and finally stop by House of Nature.

Zagreb to Dubrovnik is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Zagreb in January, things will get somewhat warmer in Dubrovnik: highs are around 12°C and lows about 5°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 3rd (Sun) early enough to go by car to Split.

Experience an authentic Adriatic lifestyle in Split, the largest city along the sea's coast.
Kick off your visit on the 4th (Mon): get engrossed in the history at Etnografski muzej Split, then pause for some photo ops at Cathedral of Saint Domnius, and then appreciate the extensive heritage of Diocletian's Palace.

Slunj

Slunj is a town in the mountainous part of Central Croatia, located along the important North-South route to the Adriatic Sea between Karlovac and Plitvice Lakes National Park, on the meeting of the rivers Korana and Slunjčica . Kick off your visit on the 5th (Tue): experience rural life at Opg Novkovic, explore the ancient world of Stari grad Slunj, and then identify plant and animal life at Rastoke.

Traveling by car from Split to Slunj takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of flight and bus. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Tue) so you can drive to Rijeka.

Rijeka

Rijeka is the principal seaport and the third-largest city in Croatia (after Zagreb and Split). On the 6th (Wed), walk around The Angiolina Park - Villa Angiolina, then stop by Volosko, then examine the collection at Peek & Poke Computer Museum, and finally step into the grandiose world of Trsat Castle.

You can drive from Slunj to Rijeka in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of taxi and train. In January in Rijeka, expect temperatures between 11°C during the day and 6°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 6th (Wed) so you can go by car to Zagreb.
