The capital of the island of Funen, Odense represents the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, who penned such classics as "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling." Denmark's third-largest city proudly displays its link to the famous writer with museums, sculptures, and public art installations dedicated to Andersen and his stories.
Kick off your visit on the 2nd (Fri): get engrossed in the history at The Danish Railway Museum, then steep yourself in history at Hans Christian Andersens Childhood Home, then learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Odense ZOO, and finally step into the grandiose world of Egeskov Castle.

Traveling by car from Billund to Odense takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and train; or take a bus. In October, daily temperatures in Odense can reach 15°C, while at night they dip to 8°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Fri) so you can go by car to Aero.
