Katoomba

Located off of the Great Western Highway, Katoomba is the main hub of the City of Blue Mountains.

Sydney to Katoomba is an approximately 2-hour car ride. You can also take a train; or take a bus. In January, plan for daily highs up to 34°C, and evening lows to 20°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Mon) early enough to drive to Bathurst.

Dubbo

Visit the city of Dubbo, the most populous urban area in the Orana Region, for an exciting and thriving multicultural city from which to explore the surrounding Great Western Plains.
Start off your visit on the 6th (Wed): Head underground at Wellington Caves & Phosphate Mine and then admire the natural beauty at Shoyoen Japanese Garden. On the 7th (Thu), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: contemplate the long history of Old Dubbo Gaol, get to know the resident critters at Taronga Western Plains Zoo, and then make a trip to Alladins Cave Bottle House.

Traveling by car from Bathurst to Dubbo takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or fly. In January in Dubbo, expect temperatures between 38°C during the day and 21°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 8th (Fri) so you can go by car to Jenolan Caves.
