Once synonymous with the mysterious and inaccessible Shangri-La, today Kathmandu draws an ever-increasing number of tourists, catering to independent travelers of various budgets.

Get out of town with these interesting Kathmandu side-trips: Uma Maheshwor Temple (in Kirtipur), Bhaktapur (National Art Gallery, Dattatreya Temple, &more) and ISKCON (in Budhanilkantha). If you are flying in from India, the closest major aiport is Tribhuvan International Airport. Expect a daytime high around 34°C in June, and nighttime lows around 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Wed) to allow enough time to travel back home.
