42 days in Cairns Itinerary

A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.

Venture out of the city with trips to Mossman (Shannonvale Tropical Fruit Winery, Mossman Golf Club, &more), Wangetti (Hartley's Crocodile Adventures & Rex Lookout) and Port Douglas (Safaris, Four Mile Beach, &more). Spend the 19th (Fri) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. Spend the 30th (Thu) exploring nature at Curtain Fig National Park. There's still lots to do: get a dose of the wild on a nature and wildlife tour, kick back and relax at Trinity Beach, identify plant and animal life at Atherton Tablelands, and trek along Esplanade Boardwalk.

Perth to Cairns is an approximately 7.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. The time zone changes from Australian Western Standard Time to Australian Eastern Standard Time, which is usually a 2 hour difference. Traveling from Perth in June, things will get somewhat warmer in Cairns: highs are around 30°C and lows about 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Thu) so you can travel back home.
