Franconia travel guide

With a history stretching back at least a thousand years, Franconia is a land of unspoiled natural scenery, fine wine, and outstanding cuisine, making it a solid vacation spot. In many ways a world apart from the rest of the country, Franconia was for many centuries an independent kingdom. Though the region forms the northern section of the state of Bavaria, Franconia's current inhabitants remain proud of their distinct culture and traditions. They see themselves as a breed apart from Bavarians living to the south. Franconia is world-famous for producing fine white wines sold around the globe in easily recognizable teardrop-shaped bottles. Wine lover or not, you can find plenty of things to do here. The region contains many medieval towns, castle ruins, and sprawling green areas. These present numerous opportunities for sightseeing by foot, bicycle, and canoe in pristine natural environments.
