Wine Capital of Burgundy
The Wine Capital of the Burgundy region in the Côte-d'Or department, Beaune is a walled city with features remaining from the pre-Roman and Roman eras in eastern France. For shopping fun, head to Le Cellier de la Cabiote or Quarre de Chocolat. Visiting Cirque du Bout du Monde and La Voie des Vignes will get you outdoors. Get out of town with these interesting Beaune side-trips: Chateau De Germolles (in Mellecey), Basilique Saint Andoche de Saulieu (in Saulieu) and Le Saut de Gouloux (in Gouloux). There's much more to do: learn about winemaking at Domaine Bader-Mimeur, see the interesting displays at Musee du Septennat, stop by Appellation Chocolat, and pick up some new knowledge with Sensation Vin.
