The Birthplace of Democracy
One of the world's most ancient cities, Athens remains Europe's undisputed historical and cultural capital.Acropolis of Athens and Archaeological Site Mycenae are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Popular historic sites such as Temple of Olympian Zeus and Theater of Dionysus are in your itinerary. Change things up with these side-trips from Athens: Mycenae (Arkadiko Bridge & Lion Gate) and Nafplio (Church of Panaghia, Fortress Palamidi, &more). There's much more to do: get engrossed in the history at Acropolis Museum, explore the ancient world of Ancient Agora of Athens, explore the world behind art at National Archaeological Museum, and take a stroll through Plaka.

Fira, the busy capital of Santorini, sits on the very edge of a volcanic caldera.Let the collections at Wine Museum Koutsogiannopoulos and La Ponta capture your imagination. You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Red Beach and Caldera Beach. Explore Fira's surroundings by going to Akrotiri (Almyra Beach & Experience Horse Riding). There's much more to do: delve into the distant past at Akrotiri, hike along Ekklisia Theoskepasti hiking trail, kick back and relax at Perivolos, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Panagia Theoskepasti Chapel.

You can fly from Athens to Fira in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi and ferry; or ride a ferry. In June, plan for daily highs up to 32°C, and evening lows to 24°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 26th (Fri) early enough to travel back home.

Wine Island
Known for dramatic views and romantic sunsets, the island of Santorini draws visitors with its long string of black, white, and red beaches. The largest and most significant of a small group of volcanic islands located just 200 km (120 mi) southeast of Greece's mainland, Santorini boasts just over 15,000 permanent residents. Created by a massive volcanic eruption that likely destroyed a single large island, the archipelago still features an active volcano, which saw its last eruption in the 1950s. The easiest way to explore Santorini's craggy coastline is on foot. Start by visiting the archaeological sites on the island's southwestern side, which offer a chance to discover the area's ancient past with unobstructed views of the famed volcano.
