Surfing remains the main reason to take a trip to Tamarindo, as the beachside town is mostly known for its excellent waves.
You'll get in some beach time at Tamarindo Beach and Playa Conchal. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Lydia Beech Art Boutique and Rojas Bros Boruca Indigenous Arts. Change things up with these side-trips from Tamarindo: MAEL's ABSTRACT ART GALLERY (in Nosara) and Iglesia Catolica de Playas del Coco (in Playas del Coco). There's still lots to do: relax and rejuvenate at some of the top local wellness centers, glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Avellana, and look for gifts at Papaya Con Leche.

You can drive from La Fortuna de San Carlos to Tamarindo in 4 hours. Alternatively, you can take a shuttle; or take a bus. In December, plan for daily highs up to 32°C, and evening lows to 32°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 27th (Tue) so you can go by car to Monteverde.
