Odin's Shrine

The capital of the island of Funen, Odense represents the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, who penned such classics as "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling." Denmark's third-largest city proudly displays its link to the famous writer with museums, sculptures, and public art installations dedicated to Andersen and his stories.
Head to Dokk1 and Rosengaardcentretfor some retail therapy. Step off the beaten path and head to The Funen Village and Ladbyskibet. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Odense: Fjaellebroen (in Sjoelund), Aarhus (Astrup Kirke & Aarhus Domkirke) and Dyrehaven Ved Haderslev (in Haderslev). There's lots more to do: admire the natural beauty at Munke Mose Gardens, admire nature's wide array of creatures at Terrariet, stop by Kramboden, and get engrossed in the history at The Danish Railway Museum.
