Located just 140 km (90 mi) from Cuba, Key West is an island only about 6.4 km (4 mi) long and 1.6 km (1 mi) wide.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Fort Zachary Taylor and Truman Little White House. Your inner history buff will appreciate Saint Mary Star of the Sea and Key West Lighthouse and Keeper's Quarters Museum. Step out of Key West with an excursion to Bahia Honda State Park in Big Pine Key--about 50 minutes away. Spend the 2nd (Sat) exploring nature at Dry Tortugas National Park. There's lots more to do: go for a walk through Key West Garden Club, cruise along The Overseas Highway, look for all kinds of wild species at Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory, and examine the collection at The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum.
