Founded in the 10th century as a Viking fishing village, Copenhagen has morphed into the cultural, political, and economic powerhouse of the country.
Popular historic sites such as Nyhavn and Rosenborg Castle are in your itinerary. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Frederiksborg Castle and Amager Strandpark. Take a break from Copenhagen with a short trip to Roskilde Domkirke in Roskilde, about 40 minutes away. There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Kastellet, explore the different monuments and memorials at Assistens Cemetery, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Grundtvig Church (Grundtvigs Kirke), and don't miss a visit to The Little Mermaid.
