Lahaina

Crown Jewel of Maui

Once the booming capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom, the tropical paradise of Lahaina still remains one of Maui's top vacation attractions, providing both culture and recreation.
Get out of town with these interesting Lahaina side-trips: Maui Pineapple Tours (in Makawao), Kalepolepo Beach Park (in Kihei) and Haleakala Crater (in Haleakala National Park). Spend the 14th (Wed) exploring the striking scenery along Hana Highway - Road to Hana. There's lots more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Ka'anapali Beach, stroll around Lahaina Banyan Court, whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, and immerse yourself in nature at Iao Valley.

To see photos, other places to visit, more things to do, and other tourist information, use the Lahaina road trip planning site.

Gaborone, Botswana to Lahaina is an approximately 37-hour combination of flight and car. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 12 hours traveling from Gaborone to Lahaina. Traveling from Gaborone in April, expect Lahaina to be a bit warmer, temps between 31°C and 24°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 19th (Mon) so you can travel back home.

The Valley Isle
The second largest of the eight major Hawaiian Islands, Maui features a rugged landscape ranging from high mountain peaks to deep valleys. Half of Maui lies within 8 km (5 mi) of the coastline, and most tourists come for the sandy beaches, many of them backed by fashionable resorts offering every modern convenience. Diversity of tourist attractions is Maui's major allure, with each of the island's shores offering a different set of vacation ideas. You can swim with dolphins, snorkel with sea turtles, or hike over the otherworldly landscapes of the world's biggest dormant volcano. A foodie paradise, the island also features dozens of small farms and gourmet restaurants.
