Reykjavik, the world's most northerly capital, effortlessly combines small-town charm with heaps of big city energy.
Get out of town with these interesting Reykjavik side-trips: Thingvellir (Thingvellir National Park & Kaldidalur Valley) and Thermal Spas (in Grindavik). Spend the 2nd (Fri) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. There's lots more to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Hallgrimskirkja, contemplate the long history of Landnámssýningin/The Settlement Exhibition, take an in-depth tour of National Museum of Iceland, and don't miss a visit to The Statue of Leif Eiriksson.

Höfn or Höfn í Hornafirði is an Icelandic fishing town in the southeastern part of the country. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Hofn: Djupivogur (Bakkabud, Sveinsstekksfoss, &more), Jokulsarlon (Diamond Beach, Glacier Lagoon, &more) and Hvalnes Lighthouse (in Hornafjorour). There's still lots to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Wildlife Areas, take in the dramatic natural features at Hoffellsjokull Glacier, admire the masterpieces at The Thorbergur center, and test the waters at Hoffell Hot Tubs.
