The capital of the island of Funen, Odense represents the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, who penned such classics as "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling." Denmark's third-largest city proudly displays its link to the famous writer with museums, sculptures, and public art installations dedicated to Andersen and his stories.
On the 25th (Sat), see the interesting displays at H. C. Andersens House, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Odense Cathedral - Sct. Knuds Church, then get to know the resident critters at Odense ZOO, and finally get engrossed in the history at The Danish Railway Museum. Keep things going the next day: examine the collection at The Funen Village, then explore the historical opulence of Egeskov Castle, and then admire the landmark architecture of Egeskov Molle.
