Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Low Head is a suburb of George Town, Tasmania, on a peninsula at the mouth of the Tamar River, 5 kilometres north-west of the town centre.It is a popular snorkel and scuba diving area during much of the year, with extensive wide, unspoiled beaches.The area also has a lighthouse, beaches and a colony of little penguins (Eudyptula minor). You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Wineglass Bay and Honeymoon Bay. Visiting Wineglass Bay Lookout and Low Head Penguin Tours will get you outdoors. Get out of town with these interesting Low Head side-trips: Beauty Point (Seahorse World & Platypus House). There's much more to do: get engrossed in the history at Beaconsfield Mine & Heritage Centre, pause for some photo ops at Paterson Monument, and paddle through the water with Freycinet Aqua Taxi.
