Inhabited since prehistoric times, Olympia remains best known as the site of the original Olympic Games, held there for the first time in 776 BCE. Inscribed on the World Heritage List, the remains of Olympia's sanctuary allow visitors to admire the timeless mastery of ancient Greek builders.
Explore Olympia's surroundings by going to Kyparissia (Tis Arkadias O Platanos & The Old Watermill), Ionian Dive Center (in Marathopoli) and Voidokilia Beach (in Petrochori). There's still lots to do: learn about winemaking at Olympia Land Winery, see the interesting displays at Museum of the History of the Olympic Games of antiquity, take in the dramatic scenery at Neda Waterfalls, and get engrossed in the history at Archaeological Museum of Olympia.
