Nafplio, a city famed for its narrow lanes and elegant architecture, provides a comfortable base for exploring the many surrounding ancient sites.
Kick off your visit on the 27th (Wed): look for gifts at T'Anapliotiko Bakaliko, then indulge in some personalized pampering at some of the best spas, then take in the waterfront at Nauplion Promenade, and finally step into the grandiose world of Fortress Palamidi. Here are some ideas for day two: steep yourself in history at Bourtzi, get engrossed in the history at Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation, then don't miss a visit to Akronafplia Fortress, and finally appreciate the extensive heritage of Tiryns.

Traveling by car from Athens to Nafplio takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In January, Nafplio is slightly colder than Athens - with highs of 50°F and lows of 32°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 28th (Thu) early enough to go by car to Kardamili.
