Roam the formal gardens of Kasteel de Haar, and then head inside to admire the richly decorated and wood interior. Located just outside Utrecht, this medieval fortress is complete with ramparts, gates, drawbridges, and large gardens. It was fully restored and rebuilt in 1892 after a large donation from the Rothschild family, but previous structures on the land date back to 1391. The inhabitants, the Van Zuylen van Nyevelt family, passed ownership over to the foundation, but still reserve the right to spend one month at the castle per year. View the many pieces on display around the castle, all of which come from the Rothschild collection. Guided tours are available to see the kitchens, greeting rooms, and dining rooms, but are usually only conducted in Dutch. Beautiful castle situated in a large garden surrounded by a lake that will appear only in fairy tales of princes and princesses. Should be more charming if visit in the evening. more »

A wonderful place to explore with friends or family! The gardens are beautiful, and the castle is just amazing. It's like traveling back to the 19th century! I recommend it to anyone! more »

Great sightseeing spot. The castle is great for a visit and the park is very nice for a walk around. It's quite far from city of Utrecht. From Rotterdam we took the train to Utrecht and then took a bus to Castle De Haar. You should go in the morning then you have more time to enjoy the place. Fantastic place for people who love castle and photo shooting.

Beautiful castle grounds with very rich (literally) collection of artifacts. Well maintained place. There is ample parking so you can bring your car. They have provided restaurant for bites and toilet which is useful. Worth exploring !
