Museum Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder
Museum Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder, a private canal house, used to be a secret meeting place for Roman Catholics who were unable to worship in public after 1578. Built during the 1660s, the three-story site in the red-light district is the second oldest museum in Amsterdam. It showcases traditional rooms, halls, and kitchens with heavy Dutch furniture, church artifacts, and art pieces. See the lavishly decorated main hall with an altar at its end, and tour the house, marked by four centuries of history. A fantastic boutique museum, showing the openmindedness of Amsterdam and its culture throughout the ages. Unfortunately, threatened to be closed due to the current narrow-mindedness and political... more »

With the pound so weak against the Euro this is quite poor value for money for us Brits. 31 euros for a family of 3 I doubt that I would pay anywhere near this much at home. A very small museum. But.... more »

This is an amazing museum that recreated one of the more interesting churches in Amsterdam. It portrays a very interesting era of Amsterdam and although it isn't the original church it has everything that existed before including some artifacts that were found while digging under the building. The museum is spread on three different buildings that you pass between them via an underground tunnel. There is a small fee for entering, but you do get a personal audio guide that has a lot of information on the place and what it has passed. The price also includes the entree fee to a museum that is in the newer building. Highly recommended!

Wonderful hidden church in an old house close to the red light district in Amsterdam. The entrance is in a cool new building, where you pay 12 euro to enter and get an overview and a audio guide. There are lockers and bathrooms and a cafe, all air conditioned! The tour of the house is fabulous, the best part is the hidden church which was typical of the 18 century when Catholic church was persecuted by protestants. Wonderful tour, highly recommended, no crowds etc. Don't miss the special art display!
