Hohbalmen, Zermatt

#7 of 13 in Nature in Zermatt
Mountain · Nature / Park
One of the finest vantage points in the Zermatt region, Hohbalmen offers panoramic views of alpine valleys and pastures surrounded by mountain peaks and glaciers. To reach this peaceful viewpoint, you'll have to endure a challenging but scenic 18km (12mi) hike from the Trift Glacier, via the aptly named Edelweiss trail. Start early and you'll get to enjoy the views of the Matterhorn in the morning sun, rising from behind the Monte Rosa massif. Pack plenty of water and snacks, and have your camera ready.
