Walk along the footpath at Aare Gorge to see the Aare River up close and experience its power. A product of glaciations many millennia ago, the river carves dramatically through a limestone ridge. Although less than 1.5 km (0.9 mi) in length, the walls of the gorge reach up 50 m (165 ft) on both sides. Visitors have walked the gorge for over 100 years, although the footpath, which clings to the walls, is much safer and more modern today. You can relax afterwards with a coffee and cake at one at one of the entrance restaurants. Wear sensible shoes and a waterproof jacket to shield you from the river's spray. We entered at the West-entrence (like most of the visitors), however there's also an east entrence. This means visitors walking the small paths in two directions which makes keeping distance... more »

More magical in person. Feels like a scene from the movie Avatar. The walk is relatively easy (I am allergic to exercise of any form and this was doable). There are steps but plenty of benches to sit if you want to rest. There is a restaurant at the end of the walkway....so worth while and the walk back is more downhill and relatively easy. We went on a Sunday at 3pm, it was not to busy.

An easy walk through a gorgeous slot canyon. The path is built into the wall of the canyon and is very safe. This would be a great walk for kids. It took us about 45 minutes to complete. Your entrance ticket includes the train back to the entrance or to the train station (it's the same train, different stops).
