Carolina Rediviva is the main building of the Uppsala University Library in Uppsala, Sweden. The building was begun in 1820 and completed in 1841. The original architect was Carl Fredrik Sundvall. Later additions to the building have been designed by Axel Johan Anderberg and Peter Celsing. The name, literally "Carolina Revived", was given in remembrance of the old Academia Carolina building, which had functioned as university library for most of the 18th century (see Uppsala University Library). Carolina Rediviva is the oldest and largest university library building in the country. It is also the site where the Codex Argenteus and the Cancionero de Upsala are kept.ExhibitionBy the entrance hall of the library there is an exhibition hall where some of the most attractive objects in the library can be seen. Among the objecs are the Codex Argenteus, the map Carta marina, and a first edition copy of Isaac Newtons Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica.

    I walked to the library and was excited to find that it was open. However, the exhibition area and gift shop were closed. Very disappointed.  more »

    The University itself has great history but they also have extraordinary exhibits of very old books and letters. Good English explanations.  more »

    It's recently renovated, I like the new arrangement, more study space, more lockers, clean look, I miss to spend time to study here

    A good place to study and work in peace. The atmosphere is nice too. The staff, however and amazingly, are the worst ones making a lot of noise - especially when talking to each other and slamming doors. They are too loud.
