S:t Olofs Church Ruins, Sigtuna

Built in the first half of the 12th Century, St Olaf’s Church (S:t Olof) was one of many stone churches erected in Sigtuna to demonstrate not only the wealth and power of the Catholic Church but to send a strong message to ordinary people who might still hold pagan beliefs. Once Sigtuna lost its importance in the late Middle Ages the churches began to fall into decay. Fortunately for us, their ruins add to the wonderful ambiance of this very gorgeous place. Take the time to walk through a structure and touch the stones hewn from rock 900 years ago.

Sigtuna is one of oldest towns in Europe. The history of the place is very old and unique. There are many hidden stories about the town and forgotten. The best timing to go is sunny weather because most of locations are open door. There are many free parkings for 2 hours, and the one close to the lakeside is for 4 hours. The people of the town are so friendly and welcoming with simplicity. I recommend to park at the lakeside, then start your waking circle to church and castle, then museum and the Town street markets till having some bites and coffee at the 200 years old cafe "Tant Bruns Caffe"
