Sofiero Palace, Helsingborg

4.5
Must see · Garden · Castle
Peek into the intimate life of Swedish royalty at Sofiero Palace, one of the family's country mansions. Originally built in 1865, the home was expanded to its current size in 1876 when King Oscar II came into power. In 1905 the castle was given as a wedding gift to the king's grandson, future King Gustaf VI Adolf, who loved the castle so much he donated it to the general public upon his death. Take a guided tour or use an audio guide to explore the upstairs of the castle with rooms decorated in period furnishings, or stop by the lower level, which now houses a cafe. The castle is best-known for its stunning rhododendron gardens featuring 500 different species. Take a picnic on the sprawling lawns and soak in the greenery. • Beautiful spacious gardens, at the time of visiting so many varieties of beautiful flowering plants covered with multitude of eager varieties of butterflies, along with bees. Play area for children which was next to the original play houses erected for the royal children. The main house itself was surprisingly bright with many interesting displays. Lovely Cafe/Restaurant to the rear Well worth a visit.
  • Beautiful house and gardens. There is a walk through trees and a ravine / glen to explore. Play area for kids plus a restaurant. Get here on the no. 8 bus from helsingborg.
