Fort Zeelandia, Paramaribo

4.1
For a better understanding of Suriname's history, visit Fort Zeelandia, an old fortress turned into a museum. Named "Fort Willoughby" until 1667, when it was captured by the Dutch and renamed after the Dutch province of Zeeland, the structure originally belonged to British settlers. View the buildings that have witnessed battles and slavery, and saw the "December Murders" in 1982. Today, the fort houses a history museum and a restaurant that serves tasty local dishes. • The atmosphere and the lights at night, make the perfect place for that romantic moment that we sometimes look for. The delicious food and the excellent treatment make it one of my favorite places in all of Paramaribo.
  • A historically charged place, but other than that beautiful.
