A Jesuit cathedral, Iglesia de San Ildefonso Jesuitas was finally completed and now stands the same height as the nearby Alcázar Castle. In the wake of opposition by Cardinal Siliceo, it took over 150 years to build. The church bears the marks of having been designed by many different architects, with sculptures, reliefs, carvings, and columns representing each man's vision. All of them are equally well-crafted, but especially impressive is the central relief, "Imposition of the Chasuble,” depicting the church's namesake, San Ildefonso.     Great place to have panoramic views of the city of Toledo. Decent height to give you a view of the city, would be a good spot for sunset views if in the city (#1 is always Mirador del valle).  more »

    The inside of the church is not really impressive, artistically speaking. Despite the plant is large and the structure tall, typical of a major church, the artistic contents are not same level. Side chapels include baroque altars, wooden made. The true jewel of this church in the two 50m high towers. It is possible to go up. From there you can see a breathtaking landscape view of Toledo.

    Loved it, such a beautiful church. We got there in the evening at pray time and there were just a few locals inside. Feel free to walk around and admire the art here.
