Take a few moments out of your tour of the city to rest at Parque del Retiro, noted for its marble monuments, elegant buildings, abundant greenery, and landscaped lawns. Laid out in the 17th century, the park was originally meant to be a secluded space for kings and queens. Opened to the public in 1868, this site is an ideal place for a leisurely stroll, relaxing picnic, or an entertaining boat ride around the artificial lake, the focal point of the park. Art exhibitions and live music performances are frequently held here on the weekends, drawing hundreds of curious visitors from around the country. If you prefer a bit of peace and quiet, you can always find a lush secret corner far away from the noisy crowds. Pleasant for a walk, a jogging or just for sitting in front of the main pool when you need a guff of fresh air when strolling the streets of Madrid. Has a restaurant or toilets if you need them, as... more »

A magnificent park in Madrid with great energy! There are a lot to see in there like the lake and the crystal palace! But it's working hours is 10:00 to 22:00 (Apr-Sept) and 10:00 to 18:00 in (Oct - Mar) If you go to Madrid, you should definitely visit this amazing park! I should confess that the nights of Madrid are more vibrant than most European cities. Even at 12 am, there are a lot of people on the streets who are cheerful, chatting and having fun energetically! So don't miss visiting this amazing park and for sure you can take amazing photos here! There is a nice lake inside the park as well.

One of our missions in Madrid was to find the Crystal Palace. It is located in El Retiro Park. We visited during winter time. Although well maintained, there were not a lot of flowers in bloom. The main entrance looked green an manicured. We saw 3 restaurants and close to the restaurants is a restroom. I am sure one can spend a lot of time in this park, but we were in a hurry and left after seeing the Crystal Palace Definitely an excellent spot to do your morning running, biking and strole with small children. One also does not hear any noises from the city.
