Mercado Central, Alicante

Each market we visited in each city was unique. The Alicante market seemed to tend to the locals more than marketing to tourist. This is great because everything you see is authentic and not cheap imports. We were very impressed with the young lady selling my wife some dresses. My wife didn't speak Spanish so I helped her a little and the sales lady got her into a changing room we had no idea existed and made it a great day for my bride. I found my spices but they seemed surprised when I asked for over 2,000 grams. I cook a lot and run out of spices from each country in short order. The fruit is in a segregated area away from the meat and fish. We met a wonderful Italian selling coffee and we purchased our coffee from him. The Catalon and Spanish people are down to earth and made it easy to make the most of our holiday in this Great market.

Large indoor market on two floors situated in stunning 1920s building. First floor with meat, fish and seafood stalls. Ground floor: fruit, vegetable, pastries and other stalls. Good quality and variety of foodstuffs. Male and female toilet facilities. Escalators at both entrances to the building, plus ramps.
