Ljubljana Castle, Ljubljana

Probably the main attraction of Ljubljana, the castle sits on a hill overlooking the city. The easiest way to access the castle is by the funicular, and the cost of the ticket covers all the different museums in the castle, so it's highly recommended to go that route if you prefer a no fuss visit. We visited in December 2019. The castle ground is huge and you can take hours exploring it, with a good view of the surrounding city too. With it being a main attraction, it's always crowded so it's good if you can allocate at least half a day to the place. And start early. Loved the history of it and definitely the #1 attraction in Ljubljana.

This castle doesn't look like much from the outside but it is definitely worth the trip. The best way I could describe it is that the castle is built on top of a cave. Stair leading to the lower levels reveal an art gallery, a jazz lounge (which I'm assuming as amazing accoustics). The view from the castle to the surrounding area is beautiful. I'm sure it's even prettier in the summer. The courtyard would be a beautiful place for a summer wedding. There is a tram you can take up to the castle, which I would definitely recommend. The walk up to the castle is steep and not something I would recommend unless you are looking for a workout.
