Take a step back in time to World War II with a trip to Fort Siloso, the restored coastal gun battery from Fortress Singapore. The fort played a significant role as a sea trading port for the British in the 19th century, and it also served as a defense from sea invasion. The fort even served as a prisoner-of-war camp briefly during Japanese occupation. It is the only preserved coastal fort in the country, and it is now home to a military museum full of memorabilia of World War II guns, remains of fortified military structures, and tunnels. The fort is best explored with the help of a knowledgeable guide, who will impart more information than the limited signage provides. By using our Sentosa Island travel route website, you can arrange your visit to Fort Siloso and other attractions in Sentosa Island.

This place is really worth to visit. The museum is well maintained and you can see lot of souvenirs and information about the world war history. You will get to know more things about the war and Singapore at that time.

There are two ways to get here: through tracking trails and a hanging bridge. Used the hanging bridge since it was the fastest way to get the fort and I had walked a lot. But the tracking trails looked fun to be explored. Better to get here before 6p.m. because the fort closes by that time. There are some rooms with audios telling the history of Fort Siloso. For history enthusiast, specially the British occupation, this place is interesting to visit. You can see the fort and illustration about how they shot the cannons.

Message from Singapore Tourism Board
Fort Siloso was built in the late 19th century. During that time, Singapore had become an important trading port for the British, so it was imperative that the island was protected from sea invasion. However, during World War II, Japanese troops invaded Singapore by land from north Malaya. This led the British to turn Fort Siloso's guns towards the mainland instead to help support the ground forces defending Singapore from the invasion. Today, more than 70 years after the war, Fort Siloso stands as a beloved historical site. The only preserved coastal fort in Singapore, it is home to a wealth of WWII memorabilia, including coastal guns and the remains of fortified military structures and tunnels. Begin your exploration from the Fort Siloso Skywalk, a treetop trail set 11 storeys above ground. You may also choose to explore the fort by the Heritage Trail or the Gun Trail, both of which are sure to take you on an unforgettable journey back in time. Relive some of the momentous events in Singapore's history with the Surrender Chambers immersive show. Be guided by light, sound and video effects starting from the Japanese invasion, all the way to the Japanese's eventual surrender at the end of WWII. Let yourself be transported back in time through the stories of people who lived during the Japanese Occupation, and experience the Allied forces' counterattack and the end of the war through six interactive zones. Before you leave, share a message of peace on the wall of poppies.
