Yelagin Island, St. Petersburg

#2 of 14 in Nature in St. Petersburg
Island · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Enjoy a day of active fun on Yelagin Island. Named after a founding father of the Russian Freemasonry, the area originally served as an aristocratic retreat. Explore the walking or cycling paths, or rent a boat and set out on the canals and ponds. Dress up in 19th-century costumes and have your photo taken in the antique interior of the palace, which Alexander I commissioned for his mother, Empress Maria. Kids will like the ony rides, miniature trains, and playgrounds. During winter, the island also provides a good setting for skating, sledding, and skiing. Head to the plaza at the western tip for views of the Gulf of Finland. • There are signs everywhere that this park is not well looked after. Also, we did not see any pets. Odd!  more »
  • Restful parkland and palaces only a short distance away from the hubbub of central St Petersburg. Accessible on Metro line 5 (purple).  more »
  • Very very nice garden. In my visit time, it was really nice. Beautiful creek, interesting ducks with their chicken and a mild wind has no other meaning else heaven garden.
  • The squirrels did it for me.
