Quinta da Regaleira
World Heritage Site Quinta da Regaleira boasts romantic architecture and a lush park. Walk through the park and past lakes, wells, fountains, and statues. The palace, which was completed in 1910 and nicknamed the Palace of Monteiro the millionaire for its former owner, is the work of Italian architect Luigi Manini using Roman, Gothic, Renaissance, and Manueline influences. Notice the palace's gargoyles and octagonal tower, among other distinctive attributes, as well as its intricate, multi-level chapel. Take in views of the Castle of Moors and Pena Palace. Such a fabulous place to visit and so much to see. Whimsical turrets and amazing statues, caves and a well. A great place to take a picnic although there is a cafe, I think its completely open air... more »

There is so much to see and do here - the tour of the building was enjoyable, but I particularly liked the Initiation Well - look out for the Knights Templar cross :-) more »

Without a doubt the highlight of my trip to Portugal. If you’re planning on visiting, make sure to arrive early in the morning because there is just so much to see. Absolutely stunning and I’m honestly surprised that I hadn’t heard of it before. Lots of amazing underground passageways and corridors that connect one point to another; definitely an ideal place to come with children. I visited at a very peak time, but the sheer size of the place ensured that it wasn’t crowded. It seems endless, and even though I spent hours here, it still didn’t feel like enough because each and every structure needs time to appreciate. Highly recommended!!!

Fantastic Quinta. Inside there are many attractive spots. The stroll around this fantasy park will take at least 2 hours, but it is worth it. One will see the castle itself, two fantastic wells, sculptures and exotic plants. We enjoyed the walk but were very tired. There's no parking near Quinta, park the car in the town and walk about 700 m.
