Padrao dos Descobrimentos
Celebrate Portugal's rich history of exploration at Padrao dos Descobrimentos, which was built to commemorate Prince Henry the Navigator and the Age of Discovery during the 15th and 16th centuries. Architect José Angelo Cottinelli Telmo and sculptor Leopoldo de Almeida created the original statue for the 1940 Portuguese World Fair. It was later destroyed but then rebuilt in 1958 by the government. Note the monument's square with its marble compass rose, which was a gift from South Africa. A monument dedicated to the Portuguese explorers, built at the point from where the ships sailed to explore India and set up trading routes. It remembers and pays homage to Age of Discovery. Really impressive and thought off concept with monument shaped as sailing ship itself.. You will be sound the area if you are exploring Belem. Check this one out, if nothing else it gives good offers good views of the bridge.

Visit this place on a good afternoon, right before the Sun Set, and everything turns golden. Oh. That is when you are up on top of the monument. I strongly insist everyone goes up to this place to see Lisbon from totally different angle. This is different from the Castle, and, you will see the striking modern Lisbon, in the center of the City. expect Vertigo if you dare to look down the plaza to see the grand circle pattern. One of the memorable moments of Lisbon for us.
