Trip Planner: Europe / Poland / Southern Poland / Lesser Poland Province / Krakow / St. Florian's Gate
Visit one of the architectural centerpieces in the city's old town at St. Florian's Gate. Built in the 14th century as part of a defensive wall against Turkish invasion, the tower has been restored since World War II, and its stone and colorful bas-relief of Saint Florin look almost new. The attraction also marks the beginning of the Royal Road, a route taken by the royal family through the center of town. At some point on your visit you may walk under the tower on your way into the center. Consider commemorating your introduction to Krakow with a photo near the iconic attraction. St. Florian's Gate reviews
Just imagine people in the early 1300s erecting a tower like this. Stone by stone, while in the upper parts bricks were used. Part of the wider defense system of the city it was an immense effort... more »
A must to pass through! Beautiful gate which was protecting Krakow city originally. Just up front to remparts dedicated as well to city protection. more »
A beautiful building and definitely worth the short stroll down St. Florian’s Street from the market square to take a look. The tower building sits as part of the only standing section of the fortification wall of Old Krakow, and is right beside the Barbican building which is also worth seeing whilst you’re there. On the hour, you should be in a good place to hear (and possibly see) the trumpet player in the top of the Basilica watchtower, which is nicely framed at the opposite end of the street.
Just wow! One of the most beautiful parts of the city and the entranceway to one of the busiest streets. Lots of history involving this place, and is the starting point for a lot of guided tours.
