See a feat of engineering that stands in testament to the collaboration of two neighboring countries at PRESA DE ITAIPU, one of the world's largest hydroelectric dams. This Parana River dam was completed in 1984 as a joint venture by Paraguay and Brazil. Visits to the facility include a guided tour of the structure, with explanations of its history, use, and importance. In 1994, the enormous and effective structure was named one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers, and has even had a piece of music written in its honor by acclaimed American composer Philip Glass.
