Journey to the ruined city (now designated a World Heritage Site) of Panama La Vieja. Wander among collapsed walls and the still-standing church tower of the city, which was established in the 1520s. Ransacked by Welsh pirate Henry Morgan in the 17th century, not much remains, but what does is evocative. The museum's diorama, along with other artifacts, gives you an idea of the full extent of the city. To get the full experience, hire a guide to shed light on these architectural relics and paint a picture of life here. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Panama City holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Panama La Vieja and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • An Old Town tour, lead by a knowledgeable guide, is a must. Don't venture into the red paved areas and you'll be quite safe. All the locals are super friendly and helpful. Negatives: broken pavements....  more »

  • Best experience ever. Prices were very good. Place was clean and with lots of information. The staff was very helpful. Never thought of being able to walk all the way to the top of the cathedral. Amazing experience. 💯 recommended.
  • A gorgeous piece of the past. The place is surrounded by the city on one side and the mangroves on the other. It begins with a gravel trail with smaller ruins with signs that can be read and offer information before reaching the main iconic ruin/building. The place has a nostalgic atmosphere that gets heavier with each piece of information that's feed to the public by the signs and the museum. The museum offers a beautiful tour through time that flows seamlessly through explanations on the walls and shelves, models of how everything used to look like and movies. Going to the top of the tower and appreciate a view of at least 500 years is a must!
