The whaling station was used by Dutch, English and Basque expeditions between 1612 - 1650. 123 British, Dutch and German whalers are burried on Magdalenenfjord land. During summer is home to many arctic birds, Arctic terns nesting on shore and, "fiercely" defending their ground nests from any inattentive intruder. Occasionally polar bears can be sighted. Scenery landscapes, cultural heritage in a wild, pristine sanctuary.
