Kvernes Stave Church, Kvernes

#2 of 8 in Things to do in Averoy Municipality
Church · Tourist Spot
Dating back to about 1300 CE, Kvernes Stave Church remains one of the youngest of Norway's stave churches. The single-nave church is characterized by crossbeams and central posts. The choir measures 7 m by 7.5 m (23 ft by 25 ft), while the nave is only 16 m by 7.5 m (52 ft by 25 ft)--this makes the building one of the smallest existing stave churches. It's a worthy stop for any architecture buff, and others interested in adding a bit of culture to their trip. • Pretty stave church, on the side of a new church. Unfortunately we got there too late and we couldn't get in, but I recommend to stop if you are passing by, the view itself is really pretty.
  • Not really much to see. Unless you're already going past I wouldn't digress from your itinerary to see this. It's a perfectly average church with some history behind it.
