Fåberg is a village and former municipality in Oppland county, Norway.The parish of Faaberg was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). On January 1, 1964 Fåberg was incorporated into the neighboring municipality Lillehammer. Prior to the merger Fåberg had 13,381 inhabitants.The district Fåberg contains the villages Fåberg and Jørstadmoen. Combined, they form an urban area with a population of 1,342.The nameThe municipality was named after the old farm Fåberg, since the first church was built there. The meaning of the first element is unknown, the last element is berg n 'mountain'.Until 1921 the name was written "Faaberg".Notable residents Carl Sofus Lumholtz (1851-1922), explorer, ethnographer, and archaeologist Kalle Løchen (1865-1893), painter and actor Lars Olsen Skrefsrud (1840-1910), missionary and language researcher in India
