Landmark · Tourist Spot
Tharu Cultural Museum & Research Center offers an intimate look into the authentic lifestyle of the Tharu people. This Nepali ethnic minority makes up about seven percent of the population, and has remained largely untouched by globalization. Residents live and work in the village's mud homes, often too busy going about their lives to interact much with visitors. The livestock grazing in the area belong to the villagers, and a small museum gives more information about Tharu culture, tools, and dress. The village is about 2 km (1.2 mi) outside of the center of Sauraha; you can reach it easily by car, ox-pulled cart, on foot, or by bicycle.
