At 3,710 m (12,170 ft) altitude and at the foot of the magnificent Himalayas stands Muktinath Temple, a sacred sanctuary for both Hindus and Buddhists. The pagoda style temple represents both Lord Vishnu and Buddhist Gompla. Pilgrims and devotees of both religions come to worship their deities, burn incense and candles, and perform rituals. Bring your own prayer flags and hang them in this holy place. Panoramic views spread across the surrounding mountains. Highlights include the 108 fountains where people come to refresh and relax, and a human size gold statue of Lord Vishnu. • I was amazed that this site is still profoundly evocative after 24 years. This in spite of the commercialization down the road with many would be spiffy hotels and shops. The key thing to do is open mind and heart to the powerful mystical presence of this pilgrimage site.
  • A beautiful temple located at a height of 13500 feet!Need to trek up from Muktinath town. Very serene and peaceful. Went during rainy season and it was very cold.
