Explore the leafy and peaceful grounds of Jindai-ji Temple, replete with babbling streams and ponds habited by koi carp and turtles. This being Tokyo's second oldest temple, established in 733 CE in the Edo-period center for silkworm production, the area retains its old-time atmosphere, with shops in wooden buildings, and even a windmill nearby. Though most of the structures in the temple were rebuilt during the 20th century, you can still view the oldest part of the temple, its gate, built in 1695. Consider stopping by one of the soba restaurants outside to enjoy the delicious local delicacy.
