Duomo di Siracusa, one of Sicily's most notable religious monuments, features intricate Baroque architecture and a rich historical legacy. On the Isle of Ortigia near the southern coast of Syracuse, the church is a large repository of religious relics, statues, and the remains of saints. Architect Andrea Palma designed the large outer columns along the facade, which were completed in 1753. Explore the inner areas of the church, such as the fifth-century Temple of Athena.     What a beautiful Cathedral, outside as well as inside! There's a lot to see on the inside, the Cathedral itself but also something like a little museum. The whole place consists of many different areas which is really interesting. Beware, that if you're wearing shorts or tops, they will give you something to put over it because you're not allowed inside with clothes that show too much skin.

    This is a great piece of architecture that has a secret inside - it is actually a preserved Greek temple what was converted to a Christian church centuries ago. Inside you can see the perfectly preserved Greek Temple columns and you actually sit inside of the once formal closed in temple area that is now open for Christian purposes. You are forbidden to photograph the ceiling, and for good reason - it is a work of art in and of itself.
